Museum Diary

A Blog Is Born

20 September 2009

We’re off to Iceland for our honeymoon this coming week, in the middle of which I’ll be taking a break to attend the annual CECA* conference, which this year takes place in Reykjavík. My colleagues are of divided opinion whether I am just extremely dedicated to my job, or simply out of my mind. On the plus side, we get to spend an extra week in Iceland, and my husband can finally see me give a paper ‘for real’ after years of acting as a sounding board and guinea pig audience for my presentations.

I’ve volunteered to write up my feedback from the conference online for CECA members who can’t make it this year (with Iceland apparently being the most interconnected, in relative terms, country in the world this should almost be possible in real time) - which got me thinking about all the museums I’ll be going to not only as part of the conference but also during the rest of our honeymoon, and how I could write those up too, and next thing you know this museum blog was born.

I won’t just be restricting myself to museums though, I’ll also report on any visits to art galleries, science centres, historic sites, and other cultural institutions or visitor attractions, as well as any seminars or conferences or relevant interest - but that would make a very long and rather unwieldy blog title!
