5 January 2012
Almost a week into the new year without seeing the inside of a museum, I was starting to get withdrawal symptoms. But today we made the first museum visit of 2012, even though it was just next door to the Jewish Museum Berlin, and even though it was just for afternoon tea. It still counts, right? We had granny Scotland staying with us, who mostly wanted to spend time with her grandson (a.k.a. #MuseumBaby) instead of sightseeing, so showing off the amazing architecture in the Glass Courtyard - afternoon tea in style! - was a good compromise.
It’s a great venue to meet up, by the way, as you only need to pay if you enter the permanent displays or temporary exhibitions, but not to visit the courtyard. You can get food and drink from the Café (which also has its own separate dining area) to take through, or bring your own. As with most cafés I’ve been to here in Berlin, the wheat and gluten free selection is minimal (fruit for me, as usual), but #MuseumBaby loved his Bretzl and they do have high chairs, as well as baby changing facilities elsewhere in the museum, making it a good destination for families. When not sitting in his high chair, the courtyard is also a great space for #MuseumBaby to run around in, and in summer the doors open out into the gardens which are also a great family space.
