1 December
We have just featured our 22nd museum on Museum140’s Adopt-a-Museum and the project is still going strong with lots of interest coming in. However, although we’re confidently hoping we can continue and make it to 100 museums, we’re taking a wee break during December. It’s a really busy time for everyone and lots of people go on holiday, and we don’t want any of the featured museums to get less attention than the others because they’re overshadowed by Christmas.
But instead we’ve created an Adopt-a-Museum spin off Advent Calendar for you! Each day from 1 to 24 December you can discover a new museum, recommended either by the team at Museum140 or by one of our previous adopters who were so keen they wanted to recommend another museum! We’re still focusing mostly on smaller, lesser known museums, though we’ve relaxed the rules a bit, especially for some of the more unusual museums that often feature e.g. on “world’s wackiest museums” lists, as we wanted the calendar to be fun.

We hope you enjoy the daily photographs and recommendations, and we’ll be back with our full length features in January. Don’t forget, we’re always on the look out for new adopters, so if you know a great museum you want to put in the spotlight, please get in touch and we’ll send you the Adopt-a-Museum questionnaire. In return, you’ll get one of our fabulously stylish stickers, and a warm glowing feeling from having promoted one of your favourite museums.
Wishing you all a great Advent!
The team from Museum140

By the way, the programme we’ve used to make our calendar is a Tumblr application developed by Sam Rayner. The basic design is free, but for a small donation you can unlock additional background themes, with all proceeds going to The Happy Africa Foundation charity.
